Four months old, twenty people, half a billion dollars

NVIDIA’s participation as an investor adds a strategic dimension beyond the financial. If Recursive Superintelligence succeeds in building systems that improve themselves autonomously, those systems will require enormous amounts of GPU compute for every self-improvement cycle. A self-improving AI is, by definition, an infinitely recurring compute customer — each improvement cycle requires training and evaluation that consumes GPU hours, and each cycle produces a more capable system that attempts an even more computationally intensive improvement. NVIDIA’s investment portfolio effectively bets on every possible path to superintelligence simultaneously. That portfolio creates conflicts of interest that the AI governance community should monitor.
  • Monitor for capability breakthroughs and report them. Recursive Superintelligence has not launched, but when it does, any demonstration of genuine recursive self-improvement — even bounded — should be treated as a landmark event requiring public disclosure, independent evaluation, and safety review. The AI equivalent of a nuclear test should not be a stealth product launch.

Whether that valuation reflects the most important investment in the history of technology or the most reckless bet in the history of venture capital depends entirely on choices that have not yet been made — by the founders, the investors, the regulators, and the research community that now has roughly eighteen months to figure out governance frameworks before the first recursive loop runs. The clock is already ticking. The money has already been deposited. And the company is named Recursive Superintelligence, which at least has the rare virtue of complete honesty about exactly what it intends to build with your venture capital dollar and the world’s electricity.
