House offices spend $100,580 on ChatGPT
U.S. House offices, committees, and institutional accounts spent about $100,580 across 798 ChatGPT transactions in the year through March 31, nearly 90% of at least $113,740 in disclosed AI-tool purchases, according to CNBC’s analysis of House disbursement records. Claude placed second with $13,160 across 37 transactions, while free accounts and AI bundled into larger software contracts were excluded. For operators tracking how ChatGPT erases handoffs between specialist tasks, the tiny but lopsided public-sector ledger is a useful adoption signal: general-purpose assistants are entering policy work before agencies have standardized how to count them.
