GitHub Models shuts down after 29 days' notice

GitHub retired GitHub Models today after giving users 29 days’ notice in its July 1 deprecation announcement. The hosted marketplace, playground, and inference API are gone, while GitHub points workflow builders toward Copilot and recommends Microsoft Foundry for direct model access. Teams that used the catalog for evaluation should move test prompts and provider credentials behind their own abstraction rather than assume the interface permanence discussed in Microsoft’s multi-model strategy.
