GitHub gives Copilot admins 28 days on model defaults
GitHub gave Copilot Business and Enterprise administrators 28 days to decide whether generally available models should become available to users automatically. The GitHub policy notice says the default takes effect August 26, preserves explicit model choices, and excludes open-weight models plus models outside GitHub’s data-retention agreement. Platform teams applying the same control-plane discipline described in the stateless MCP migration guide should treat the deadline as a governance task: disable the policy before August 26 if legal or security review must precede every model rollout.
