MCP passes 400M monthly SDK downloads

The Model Context Protocol passed 400 million monthly SDK downloads, up fourfold this year, as Anthropic shipped its fifth specification with a stateless core and hardened OAuth 2.0 and OIDC authorization. Anthropic’s MCP 2026-07-28 announcement says the request-response design lets servers run on serverless and edge infrastructure, while versioned extensions formalize interactive apps and long-running tasks. For builders who agreed with the case that MCP’s durable value is interoperability rather than novelty, the adoption number and simpler deployment model make protocol support harder to dismiss as optional plumbing.
