Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 until further notice

Anthropic has suspended Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all users worldwide — three days after their June 9 launch. On June 12 the company received a US government directive, issued under national-security export-control authority, barring access by any foreign national inside or outside the country, including Anthropic’s own foreign-national staff (The New Stack).

The trigger was a rival’s claim to have jailbroken Mythos 5. Unable to filter access by nationality in real time, Anthropic pulled both models for everyone rather than risk non-compliance; Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6 stay online (MarkTechPost).

Anthropic calls it a likely misunderstanding — the jailbreak is “narrow and non-universal” — and says it’s working to restore access, with no timeline given. It’s the first time a leading AI lab has taken a deployed model offline under a US federal order.
